Ndutu and the southern Serengeti

Where the Great Migration gives birth, from January to March.

Why go

What makes it special

Ndutu sits on the border of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Serengeti. From about January to March the short-grass plains fill with wildebeest and zebra, and hundreds of thousands of calves are born. Lion, cheetah and hyena follow close behind. Off-road driving is allowed in the conservation area, which brings you closer to the action.

  • Wildebeest calves born on the plains
  • Cheetahs hunting in the open
  • Off-road driving in the conservation area
  • Fewer vehicles than the central Serengeti
  • Easy to combine with Ngorongoro
